How to Choose a Snowsuit for My Kid?

The mere sight of snow-covered landscapes outside your window makes your little one tremble with anticipation: it's time for some fun in the snow!

Just a minute, butterfly! Before going out, they need the right snow gear: comfortable, warm, and waterproof. An outfit that will ensure they have the best possible time under the snowflakes.

Here's how to choose the right snowsuit for your child.

4 Criteria for Finding the Right Children’s Snowsuit

Scratching your head in bewilderment at your local store's “winter sports” aisle? We understand! It's hard enough to find the right outfit for an adult, let alone a toddler, whose needs are a little more specific.

So, to make your life easier, here are the 4 main criteria to keep in mind to make the right choice.

Effective Waterproofing

First criterion: waterproofness. Whether it's a two-piece or one-piece snowsuit, your child's outfit must be completely waterproof.

When it comes to inclement weather (snow, rain, hail), snowsuits must keep your little one dry. To do this, choose a snowsuit with a polyurethane outer shell that's treated against moisture.

At Deux par deux, for example, our snowsuits are waterproof from 5000 mm to 15,000 mm, depending on the range chosen.

Ergonomic Features

Your little wolf's winter fun alternates between intense activity and moments of rest. To keep up with this rhythm, opt for a snowsuit with ergonomic features that both protect them and make their (and your) life easier.

For example, a snowsuit with elastic sleeves and ankles to prevent snow infiltration is ideal. You can also choose a suit with a detachable hood and snaps for easy on and off. Finally, zippered pockets are ideal for storing small items without the risk of losing them.

Good Insulation

The third obvious criterion is insulation. Your little one's snowsuit needs to keep them warm, even when the thermometer is at its lowest, to avoid chills and frostbite. As you know, in our neck of the woods, temperatures can easily reach -20°C.

A fleece lining, especially for the back and head, is perfect. You can also choose a garment with an integrated lining, which will keep your child warm in all situations.

That's why all Deux par deux garments are designed to insulate down to -30°C!

The Right Size

The final criterion for choosing the right snowsuit for your child? The right size and fit!

Generally speaking, your little one needs to be able to move around easily, without the risk of stumbling because their snowsuit or winter pants are too loose. In addition to ease of movement, choosing the right size also means choosing a durable garment that your child will be able to wear for a long time.

How Do I Choose the Right Size Snowsuit for My Child?

To make sure you choose the right size for your little one's snowsuit, here are a few tips to follow:

  • Choose a half size or a size larger than your child's age.
  • Opt for a garment that's adaptable, such as with adjustable straps, an elastic waist, and adaptable sleeves. And good news for Deux-par-deux fans: all our snowsuits are scalable and adaptable!
  • Let your child try on the suit and zip it up. Ask them to keep their arms at their sides: only their fingers should protrude from the sleeves.
  • Roll up the bottom of the pants by about 4 inches: if they reach the bottom of the ankles, they're the right size.
  • The snow coat should cover the buttocks but not be too long.
  • Ask your child if they feel comfortable moving around without being “eaten” by their snowsuit.
  • Ask them about their preferences and favorite activities, then browse through our 4 snow outfit collections: XPLORE, DISCOVER, PLAY, and TEKNIK. You're bound to find the perfect outfit for the snow! (You can compare them all using our comparison chart).

Now, you know how to choose a child's snowsuit. It's time for snowball fights and tobogganing!
